7th beer on the wall | [voice/action]

[voice]

So what's the likelihood of seeing an old face today? One in a million? A thousand? Less then a hundred? Not that I'm expecting anyone, but it would be nice to know if I should plan for a surprise tonight.

[/voice]

April's just down at the local pub, drinking a whiskey (she was conserving her money until payday after that shopping curse a few days ago) and listening to the crowd and the clock ticking in the background. At least it was good distraction to the twinge of pain pricking her chest. Because it didn't exist. It was an impossibility. And it had nothing to do with losing her partner all over again, even if it had been some two weeks since he disappeared.

((ooc: Yay, 4th wall! Spoilers, backtagging, threadjacks, and canonmates would be loved but not required.))

I don't think anyone could really come up with those odds.

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
[pause]

Ah, Havoc I see. I suppose such odds would be pointless in this situation.

[identity profile] disasterdream.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
This city doesn't lend itself to them from what I've been told.

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's best just to assume the worst, until you fall asleep from exhaustion and wake up cursed.

And then you're just better off enjoying yourself.

[identity profile] disasterdream.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
... and have you been? Enjoying yourself.

I was here once- a long time ago.

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, better to adapt then complain.

So they let you out and you wandered right back in? Or do you not remember much between visits?

[Would be November be the same? He was dead on the other side of the City]

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
[as she figured]

A shame, really. Who knows what things you might be able to tell us about the other side. Unless, of course, you're not actually dead.

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-12-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Smiles at that. She was glad November's handiwork hadn't been completely undone.]

Then you'd best take advantage of what time you have. Of course, I wouldn't try anything to strenuous.

[April HAD gotten the memo about Havoc's powers returning after all. No need to go after the kids.]

[identity profile] disasterdream.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
... [unfortunately, she's well aware of that implication]

Ah.

[action] o/

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
This seat taken? [ Casually motioning to the one that's one stool down from her. ]

[action] o/! Memories or no memories of marina 4th wall?

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
[gives the stranger a glance]

No one's taken it yet.

Memories, because it'll be more awkward this way

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I could have been unlucky, and just caught your friend while they were off taking care of business. [ But he sits anyhow. ] I'm unlucky -- or lucky, however you want to spin it -- to be here in the first place.

\o/

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
At least you picked the right bar to wander into. I didn't think they let you out of that place.

[waves a barkeep over for her one-time acquaintance. She'd get him a beer, but she doesn't want to presume.]

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ He grinned a bit. So she did remember. That's interesting. ] Seems whoever tries to keep us in place has a bit of a time-share program going on, on the side. [ A chuckle. ] Believe it or not, this is actually my second visit here.

[ And he'll start with something stout because he isn't really here to get drunk. ] Didn't expect to find you here. I mean, actually you. [ Does that sound weird? He doesn't care. ]

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes, quite interesting indeed.]

Maybe that's how they're keeping the import and export costs down. They just trade us back and forth for tax purposes. [her own amused laugh before she raises a brow] You must have been on your best behavior if the old computer gave you a free pass twice. Or were you hoping to find someone else?

[She hasn't yet experienced the joy of doppelgangers, so yes, it does sound a little... weird.]

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-11-30 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
So it's just a racket? I wonder if Acumen'll be locked up with us before too long, if that's the case. [ Chuckling. ] I'm a model denizen. I keep my nose clean and my friends out of trouble.

[ After a sip of the ale, he sighs. ] Mostly.

[ Then tilting his head her way. ] In here? Maybe, maybe not. I was mostly just tired of walking around. [ A beat. ] Do you know a girl named Euphie?

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-12-02 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
From what I heard, it happened with the first warden. Don't see why the second won't follow suit.

[sips at her whiskey, watching him. He seemed a bit down the first time she talked to him too.] Your friends still trying to keep you out of things?

[smiles at Euphie's name] I meet her briefly.

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-12-02 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you mean Sentience? Heh. I never thought I'd hear myself admit this, but I'd prefer her over the new warden, along any lines. I'm not the only one who seems to think it either.

Hm? [ ...oh, that's right. That's the day that he had argued with ... pretty much everyone. Sighing, he waved a hand. ] Things are... a bit better now. I understand the situation better, which is all I wanted, you know?

[ A warm chuckle. ] I'm not surprised. She's a real sweetheart, and seems to know everyone no matter where I meet her.

[identity profile] bill-to-sis.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[files that information away for later, in case she ever ends up back at such a place.] Sounds like Acumen might have a bit of a mutiny on his hands, unless he's well aware of the dissent.

[pause]

Yes, communication does tend to help things along.

[identity profile] target-acquired.livejournal.com 2010-12-03 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Acumen probably knows more than he lets on, or than we think. [ Takes a long draw from the bottle. ] But he also doesn't hesitate to call people out for going against his rules. So we'd probably hear if there was an open conspiracy that he uncovered.
